corporate begging becoming lucrative in Abuja

The rate of begging, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, is now on the increase.
These ‘corporate’ beggars are mostly seen around offices in Garki, Wuse, Utako and Wuse 11 districts, among others.

This category of beggars, who are always neatly dressed and speaking fluent English, have also devised ways of milling round Automated Transmission Machine (ATM) vicinity, and car parks to do their “business”.
Some of them come to ATM venues and queue up like other prospective customers.
Moment after, they will start whispering to the persons in their front or behind them.
Their ways of carrying out their begging is to tell anybody who cares to listen how they had attended interview(s) in the city centre and how they no longer had any money for transportation back home.
Some will wait patiently and allow customers to finish withdrawing money from the ATMs, after which they politely walk up to them and start their ‘tales’.
They are always telling their potential benefactors that they were going as far as Gwagwalada, Suleja or Keffi, so as to get some handsome money.
Some of the beggars will even walk to anybody they believe should be able to help them financially and pointedly ask: could you please help me with N1000 or N500?
