First quadriplegic woman to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro

Chaeli Mycroft, a 21-year old South African ability activist who was born with cerebral palsy, has
become the first female quadriplegic to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. After a challenging five-day climb, during which she celebrated her 21st birthday, Chaeli summited on Thursday morning in her specialized “mountain wheelchair”. She had prepared for more than two years for the challenging expedition, where she faced below-freezing temperatures and altitude sickness. The climb had been a life-long dream for Chaeli, whose charity the Chaeli Campaign has helped “more than 3,000 children to receive wheelchairs, hearing aids, food supplements and more” and earned her several international awards.
